Not bad. This should please those who don't like the current brassy sound of the VQ.

I'll miss the old sound though.

Default Official anouncement of VQ35HR and VQ25HR. With a nice pic!

Quote:
NISSAN DEVELOPS NEW-GENERATION V6 ENGINES
--Engines to power all-new Skyline to be released this autumn--

TOKYO (Aug. 22, 2006)--Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has newly developed two new-generation six-cylinder V-type engines for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicles featuring powerful performance and improved environmental friendliness.

The 3.5L VQ35HR and 2.5L VQ25HR engines will be built at Nissan's Iwaki Plant in Fukushima Prefecture and will be equipped in the all-new Skyline to be released this autumn in Japan, as well as the US where the model is sold as the Infiniti G35.

Featuring newly designed engine blocks and other key components, the engines offer smooth transition to top-in-class level engine speed of 7,500 revolutions per minute drawing upon the "smooth transition" concept of the popular VQ engine, the only engine in the world to appear on Ward's 10-Best Engines list for 12 consecutive years.

The engines achieve a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to vehicles equipped with the existing VQ engine and top-in-class Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle level emissions. SU-LEVs have 75% or less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions than those stipulated by Japan's 2005 exhaust emission standards.

The letters "HR" in VQ35HR and VQ25HR stand for "high revolution" and "high response."

Nissan began VQ engine production in 1994 and has produced a cumulative total of 5.5 million units as of last fiscal year, ended March 31, 2006.

Main specifications of the VQ35HR and VQ25HR engines:

Smooth transition to top-in-class level engine speed of 7,500 rpm

Reduction of weight and friction through adoption of asymetrical piston skirt configuration
Reduction of piston-side force through lengthening of con rod
Addition of rudder frame, newly-designed cylinder block with significantly improved rigidity

Thrilling revving sound and top-in-class output

Adoption of perfectly symmetrical intake system
Adoption of continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) for intake side and electromagnetic valve timing control (e-VTC) for exhaust side
Reduction of intake resistance through adoption of symmetrical twin intake system and straight intake port
Adoption of isometric exhaust manifold and perfectly symmetrical exhaust system

Improvement of fuel-efficiency and emission cleanliness

Reduction of friction through adoption of world's first hydrogen-free, diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating
Adoption of catalyst substrate with ultra-low heat mass, super-ignition iridium spark plug and fast light-off O2 sensor control

Awesome info! I wonder what else the VQ25HR will make it's way into, perhaps a 240sx replacement?? Also, who would want the new skyline with a 2.5L? Unless it was RWD and much lighter in which case forget the 240sx replacement, that'd do it just fine!

I am hoping the VQ25 will be on the G sedan and the Z car. That way, they can further lower prices to compete against TSX/ 325 /IS250/RX8/ and RSX. Nissan needs to have more fuel efficient vehicle nowaday.

the dual intake chambers is a nice touch, clearly a design that was put in place on the GTR and should make future turbo charging of the new VQ a little more even/easier, might hurt super chargers a little bit though, sadly the new intake design might be more of a winning point for the loyalist z32 owners who have never really liked the current VQ or Z's for that matter.

That doesn't make much sense...

It seems that other post is priotizing their sound link. Now we have a thread that really doesn't have much to do with sound.

Limitation of VBulletin. Only people with more rights than me are the admins and I don't know if they can fix the titles or if VBulletin locks them for all. I merged the threads, then found out I couldn't change the title. Wasn't happy about it.

Trust me, it wasn't intentional as your original title is more fitting for the merged thread.

according to http://carscoop.blogspot.com/ there is going to be a 2.5VQHR

I wouldn't really call it a retirement for the older VQ, more of an evolution of it, wouldn't you?

The old VQ is not retiring, it will continue to be used in the new Altima and other non-premium cars. Currently only the '07 G35 and 350Z are getting the HR.

The VQ35DE will be around for a few more years. However, will the VQ35HR trickle down to FWD Nissan models?

While Infiniti vehicles gets the new 3.7L V6??

Default New V6 Engines from Nissan

August 25, 2006
Nissan develops new V6 engines

Tokyo, Japan - Nissan has developed two new-generation V6 engines for its rear-wheel drive vehicles, with a 10 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency. The engines will be built at Nissan's Iwaki Plant in Fukushima Prefecture and will be used in the all-new Skyline in Japan, and in the U.S., where the model is sold as the Infiniti G35.
The engines also meet Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle standards, which have 75 per cent or less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon emissions than those stipulated by Japan's 2005 exhaust emissions standards.

A bunch of people.. Skyline has been sold with a 2.5L for a long time. Not every one gets the Skyline for speed and not every Skyline is a GTR.

I'm hoping Infiniti offers a G25 to keep base price low and for gas mileage reasons as gas prices aren't going down. Also to compete with the IS250 among others.

I think the VQ3.7HR will be in next Generation FX

Question on VQ25HR, which car will get this engine?

The G will get the VQ25HR in the G25 to compete with the IS250, and lower trims of the A4, C-Class, CTS, and 3-Series. Also, the CX (whenever it finally debuts) is rumored to offer both the 3.5 and 2.5 engines. I was hoping the FX would debut with the G. Now it looks like it'll be the next gen FX, or the M refresh.

Heh....

I believe Nissan is holding that ace card back. I think the new 3.7L V6 will be the engine for the GT-R. Don't expect the engine to be found NA form in other Nissan models before we get the GT-R.

I'm guessing another year before this engine materializes.

Amazing... That bottom end looks unbreakable.

I'm still waiting for the VQ32DE-TT. A stout rev happy combo that will surely forever make the VQ the Nissan engine choice over the RB.

Hey everyone, I don't get it. Could we really call this an all new engine given that it still has the "VQ" prefix in its name? The VQ35 High Revolution engine is still a VQ, right? I am with Fred on this one. The VQ has evolved, and not retired.

I hope Nissan covers that timing chain in the final production version of this engine. I cringe at the thought of any debris or dirt getting in there.

You are right about the VQ35HR being an evolution of the current VQ35DE. However, Nissan has said that this engine is about 80% brand new. So, it is a very extensive redesign.

As far as the timing chain, I'm positive it will be covered in production models. They probably just wanted to show the internals for media purposes.

Came across this info. JWT has some great shots of the VQ35HR and they've put them up for everybody to see. Bunch in there, click the link to see them all.
