Default Altima Fan Wiring Guide

I threw this together as I have been asked by a bunch of people how I wired my Altima fans when using a fan controller. I have my fans wired on high speed and are switched on and off by a Greddy MSS. Most fan controllers (HKS and Greddy that I know of, and probably Pivot et al) operate the fan through a switched ground. This is used to control the coil side of a 30A Bosch-style relay.
To wire fans on high speed it is necessary to connect the two seperate coils in each fan using the schematic below. The wire colors are consistent with the Altima fans in my car, however I cannot help you if your wire colors differ from mine. You will have to consult a FSM or experiment as I did. I have also included the plug schematic so that you can reference the wire colors as they are in the plug. The plug for the fan to harness connection is viewed with the wires coming out towards you. As a note, the wires on the car harness side of the Altima fans have different color coding, but should be easy enough to figure out based on the schematic below. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll bring it up to the Admins about "Best of 240sx" status.

Good post!

What are we to assume about the 2nd fan and connector? I know that I'd add a second relay for it. If this is possibly going to be archived, that part should be specifically spelled out.

it looks like that is for both. or are they both 2 speed like s14 fans are? i know the s14 plug stock has 4 wires for 2 speeds, but that one might just have 1 speed and hence 4 wires for one plug still. hmm.

also, is there a writeup for wiring them in a stock-format, as in have one turn on with the stock temp switch, and/or a/c? (the other would obviously just be ran to ignition to run constant as the clutch fan would). or was this deemed inefficient and unnecessary?

Both fans have 2 speed motors. The plugs for each are identical, and have the same wire colors. The wiring for the second fan will be identical to the diagram above. And yes, you would want to use another relay for the second fan. I have my second fan wired to the second channel on my fan controller so that a slightly higher temperature the second fan stages in. Hope that helps.

You will have to trim/modify the fan shroud for an s13 as well.

...and it's a trail and error thing...

You'll need to test fit, cut...test fit, cut...test fit, cut...etc, etc...
