Default exedy hyper single clutch

i am looking to replace my spec stage D (255mm) clutch setup with an exedy hyper single or possibly a blitz or hks. i dont have any problem with the spec other than the clutch pedal pressure is a little to hard for my knee when driving in traffic(army injury). i had no problems with the pedal pressure of my old spec 3 so i am looking for a clutch with around that pedal pressure or less.

i called exedy and asked them about how much power the hyper single will hold and they said 400 torque at the flywheel. i am at 348 torque at the wheels. they said since i was right at the threashold of the clutches rated holding capasity i may want to look at a twin setup which is even more expensive, but i will save up for it if i have to.

-so basicly, i just need to know if the hyper single will hold the power?
-how hard is the pedal pressure?
-will a twin disk clutch have a lighter pedal than a heavy duty single?

this is mainly a street car with occational trips to the drag strip and possibly a little auto cross in the future.

also has anyone bought from this company. they have really good prices, oddly cheaper than any other place i have found:

Exedy - Hyper Single Clutch - Nengun Performance

thanks,

aaron

You can try swapping your slave cylinder to help with pedal pressure. A nismo unit or Z31 (from what some say) will work.

I'm assuming this is for an SR?

I have a blitz active clutch (single disc) installed in my S13 SR. I also have the Nismo Slave cylinder. With this setup, the pedal effort is very very light, like a stock civic..... no joke. I can't say for sure if it would be the same with the Exedy hyper single, but they look to be similar in design.

i have heard of this, but can not find any info about it. i was also thinking about trying a z32 clutch master cylinder, but again no info and i dont have enough money to buy random parts to try out. i though about trying the nismo until i saw the price($180). cheaper than a new clutch, but alot of money to spend if it turns out not to be worth it.

yes it is an sr. full list of mods and specs:

Search on here for Z31 clutch slave cylinder. I believe it has similar dimensions and effect as the nismo slave, fits our cars and is much cheaper. Russ used one on his car.

that would be great. did you do the nismo slave cylinder seperate of the clutch. basicly did it make a noticable difference by its self?

Just to let you know Exedy Hyper Single pedal is harder than Spec D, if you really want soft pedal I would recommend Competition clutch. I used to have Competition clutch S4 in my car but I didn't like it so I switched it to Spec D.

holy crap. i can't believe the exedy is harder than the spec d. i guess that single disk kit is out of the question. maybe i will look into the twin disk setup(450lb less clamping load) or maybe the blitz(twin).

thanks for the heads up.

Sorry for the delayed reply... I installed all of these parts together when I dropped my SR in so I can't comment about what made the most difference, but I was VERY surprised at how light the pedal pressure was with the Blitz active clutch. I can't imagine that the Nismo slave cylinder is the only thing making the pedal feel lighter. My friend has an EG hatch (LS/turbo) with a stage 2 Exedy clutch (factory replacement style stamped steel clutch cover with the 3-puck cerametallic disc), and the blitz's pedal pressure is WAY lighter than that. As with any cerametallic disc, it is a bit grabby and chattery tho, so be ready for it.

LOL, you guys should try OS twin plate or HKS twin plate clutches those clutch pedals are hard as rock.
Personally I like OS Twin more than any other clutch I had experience, I prefer hard pedal feel than super soft pedal like Competition Clutches.

i have been running ceramic puck cluthes for a few years now(currently with an unsprung disk) so i am used to the on/off. shouldnt be an issue. i really like what your saying about the light pedal. i may switch to a blitz setup. the exedy hyper single looks good too, but i want the lighter clutch pedal.

thanks

I have the exedy hyper clutch kit (6 puck sprung). I can't really tell you the difference than stock (never had the car with a stock clutch) but its not that stiff. I have driven in DC traffic (stuck for 2 hrs) and had no problems with the clutch. Also i have put in the Nismo slave cylinder and its now soft as any normal clutch coming from a dealer. Just remember it is a 6 puck and it will have a little chatter engaging but not all the time and certainly nothing like the spec 6 puck clutch i had in before. The spec clutch was very stiff and i'm not sure which one it was because it was in dere when i bought it but it was misserable to drive in traffic and chattered like crazy.

As for holding the power, i've been running stock boost and won't really know till get my new turbo in, probably then i could tell you how it will hold up.

Don't get a twin plate either unless you want a more of a on/off type clutch and enjoy stalling the car often.
